Changing the COM Port

The scripts may not work if the COM port number is set too high. When installing the FTDI driver Windows chooses the next COM port on its list, if you have done this a couple of times the number can get quite high. The following instructions show how to change the COM port number in Windows XP.

1) Open system properties, using system from the control panel.

2) Select the Device Manager Tab and expand the ports tree

3) The port on this system I want to change is port 73

4) Double click, select the port settings tab and advanced button

5) Change the port to a lower number, it will say it is in use but I know different.

6) There will be a warning but just accept it. and close down all of the dialogs by selecting ok.

7) Unplug the USB device and then plug it back in again. It will now assume its new port identity, that is of course if there really was nothing connected to the lower number.
